Bio
Coming from a family of 4 children, Patrice lived part of his life in Beauce, a calm region of the province of Quebec. His interest in science and art began at an early age. Always driven by his curiosity, intuition, and thirst for knowledge, it was obvious that Patrice was going to undertake great things by combining these two fields.
Following his engineering studies at Laval University, he moved to Montreal at age 24 for his first job. In the early 2000s, he returned to Quebec to found his family. An electrical engineer since 1996, he is the co-owner of Evolution Telecom, a dynamic and flourishing company that has worked in the telecommunications field for 10 years. Bassist and keyboardist in his spare time, Patrice has been combining his passion for music and creation for a few years now, devoting himself to sculpture under the artist name Patrice Nadeau.
Very curious by nature, Patrice has always endeavored to observe and try to understand what surrounds him. It is the same when he observes the beauties that nature offers. This same curiosity led him to excel in his art. Although he is self-taught, he likes to understand how the wood species, which he highlights through his work as an artist, interact with the earth, water and ambient air, to create, by themselves, very original patterns and beautiful textures.
Discover
As a nature lover, it was by creating a forest path on his woodlot that his curiosity was piqued by the vestige of a dead tree stump he had just unearthed. What might have gone unnoticed to most people turned out to be very original to him with its astonishing pattern despite being still covered in dirt and uncleaned.
As he progressed in his work of clearing the soil to develop his path, several stumps and root systems that he unearthed appeared to him to be real treasures to contemplate and, above all, to highlight. If all saw them as mere useless dead woods, cluttered with old rotting roots, damp earth and moss, his curiosity was only further aroused.
Sublimate
“Even at this stage of their existence, there are still elements to be discovered for the sharp eye and the curious and patient person.” After his return home, he undertook, like the archaeologist and the sculptor, intuitively, step by step, iteratively, to clean, empty, dig, polish and oil these vestiges to reveal their uniqueness and sublimate them. As his grandparents regularly reminded him "With a valiant heart, nothing is impossible”.
Reborn
Himself seized by the rebirth of his own artistic sensibility, Patrice remembered that his taste for art and artistic talent were very present since childhood. Nonetheless, since then, he has expressed it mainly through his engineering schemas in telecommunications as well as during his time spent playing bass and synthesizer.
What was just a hobby turned into a real artistic endeavor that propelled him to develop his talent even further. Mostly carved from species of wood found on his woodlot in the region of Bellechasse (maple, yellow birch, black cherry, cedar, fir and spruce) his sculptures are the accomplishment of tens, if not hundreds, of years of aging by nature and several hours of passionate work. With each sculpture, Patrice works in symbiosis with nature.
Nature, teacher of wisdom
A testimony of timelessness, nature unfolds in silence. Like a quiet force, it creates instinctively and deliberately. This is what Patrice highlights by carefully cleaning, polishing and revitalizing the vestiges that she puts on his way.
Unicity
The technical work he performs meticulously is intended to be authentic and respectful of the pieces he appropriates. Each color, each particular motif is underlined, amplified.
For Patrice Nadeau, each piece is unique and gives him great pleasure as he discovers its secrets, as he devotes time to reveal its beauty. By its originality, color, texture, provenance and essence, each sculpture leads the person who contemplates it to initiate a reflection on the symbol it represents. “ Through my creations, people see what their imagination tells them. ”
A Nature full of hope
Patrice Nadeau will donate 10% of the profits from the sale of his works to Centraide Quebec and Chaudière-Appalaches to help seniors. He calls on other artists and entrepreneurs to join him and continue this momentum of solidarity.
